Violence at Howe Community Park Wounds Multiple Gunshot Victims in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Law enforcement in Sacramento are working a shooting that broke out Saturday night April 18 at Howe Community Park at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were clearing a large unauthorized gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals.

Prior to the Shooting

Deputies initially responded to the Arden-Arcade park at approximately 6:30 PM on April 18 after obtaining information of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Not long after, another report was received about a possible physical fight unfolding within the park grounds.

An overhead unit flew over the park but reported no active disturbance. Even so, authorities discovered that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park without official sanction.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by surrounding the park and making announcements ordering attendees to vacate the area. About 15 minutes were allowed for people to comply.

At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition cut through the air. The barrage of gunfire sent the crowd running in all directions. Deputies immediately began finding those who had been shot.

Four Victims Hospitalized

In total, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The shooting victims — including a female and three males each apparently in their 20s — were rushed to nearby hospitals. Emergency physicians stated that two victims were in serious condition, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, all four were in stable condition.

Metro Fire Sacramento assisted Howe Community Park shooting 2026 at the location and assisted with medical triage shooting victims at the park.

The Investigation

Most of the gunfire was believed to have been concentrated along Cottage Way next to the Home Depot located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Investigators found additional shell casings along Cottage Way. Round impacts were also found in the wrought iron fence adjacent to the Home Depot. The physical evidence pointed to that a second shooter had been sending rounds south from Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot. The store itself was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night.

Suspects Detained

Information obtained over scanner radio traffic confirmed that a Kia connected to the shooting had been detained in Solano County California. Four people were detained. Sacramento law enforcement were heading to pick up the four detainees to transport the detainees for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence confirmed that there were two gunmen.
